A native of Maryland, John began his career in the mental health and substance use field as a direct care technician in a group home. He joined Palmetto in 2025 after four years with the Maryland Department of Health, where he managed funding for recovery residences. After earning his undergraduate degree from LSU in 2018, John returned to Louisiana in 2021 to complete a master’s degree in psychology at ULM and has called Monroe home ever since.
John’s passion for recovery and commitment to those who seek treatment drive him to continue learning and growing in his ability to help others. A Licensed Addiction Counselor and Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor, he remains committed to staying informed about the latest developments in addiction treatment. Although trained in cognitive theories, John also emphasizes a bottom-up approach to self-regulation and learning to live with difficult feelings. He believes mutual respect and honesty are the foundation of the therapeutic relationship, allowing problems to be identified and worked through.
In his free time, John enjoys reading, writing, photography, learning Spanish, and traveling as far and wide as he can.
